Peyton Omania defeated China's Xin Huang 6-5 to win the bronze medal at 67 kilograms. He joins Cohlton Schultz (gold) and Alston Nutter (bronze) as medalists for the U.S. Greco-Roman team at this year's Junior World Championships. It marks the first time American has captured more than two medals in Greco-Roman at the Junior World Championships.
Omania, who wrestles at Michigan State, hit a headlock just over a minute into his bronze-medal match to score four points and take a 4-0 lead, which he took to the break. In the second period, Omania hit another headlock, scoring two points this time, to go up 6-0. Huang, though, was able to get a reversal and four-point exposure to make the score 6-5 with just over two minutes remaining. Omania held off Huang the rest of the way and claimed the one-point victory.
The 19-year-old California native finished the tournament with a 5-1 record. His only loss came in the semifinals to Georgia's Giorgi Shotadze, the eventual champion.
