HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Taking to the mats for the final time before the EIWA Championships, Harvard wrestling picked up a victory on the road against Hofstra, 28-9, on Friday night at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Harvard got seven wins on the evening, including a pin from freshman A.J. Jaffe and a win via major decision from classmate Kyle Bierdumpfel. The wins were part of a run of six-straight victories by the Crimson.
Hofstra took an early 6-0 lead after wins at 125 and 133 pounds, but Jaffe's pin immediately tied the score, 6-6. It took Jaffe just 2:36 to earn his victory. Freshman Hunter Ladnier and senior Colby Knight gave Harvard the lead with back-to-back wins by decision, 4-1 and 6-2, respectively.
Bierdumpfel jumped out to an early advantage at 165 pounds, eventually working his way to a 14-point major decision victory, 17-3. Juniors Josef Johnson and Kanon Dean pushed the dual out of reach with victories at 174 and 184 pounds, winning 8-2 and 9-4.
Following a Pride win at 197 pounds, senior Nicholas Gajdzik won by forfeit to close the match at 285 pounds.
Harvard wrestling returns to action at the EIWA Championships March 3-4 at Bucknell. The event will be covered by FloWrestling, and tickets are available through the Bucknell Campus Box Office. Action will begin March 3 at 11 a.m.
