UW-La Crosse earns conference win

La Crosse, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 47-3 victory over UW-Platteville Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles, ranked 19th on National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Poll, improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Pioneers fall to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

UW-L's earns its seventh straight victory over UW-Platteville.

The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead after winning the first match at 125-pounds as Cole Ferguson won by decision (6-2) over the Eagles' Ryan Weinmann at 125-pounds.

UW-L then won the final nine matches. The Eagles took 6-3 lead at 133-pounds as Dustin Weinmann won by forfeit. At 141-pounds Cody See won by technical fall (16-0, 4:42) over Jose Collado to give UW-L a 11-3 advantage. Dylan Shaffer won by fall (:48) over Greg Osborn at 149-pounds and Derek Weinmann won by forfeit at 157-pounds to make it 23-3.

Tyler Schneider and Richard Carlson earned back-to-back wins by fall to give UW-L a 35-3 lead. Schneider won by fall (4:25) at 165-pounds over UW-Platteville's Robbie Kerr while Carlson won by fall (1:44) over Randy Wade at 174-pounds.

At 184-pounds, UW-L's Eric Twohey won by major decision (10-2) over Nathan Schmitz. Mike Minske followed with a win by major decision (12-0) over Nick Martin at 197-pounds (12-0). In the final match of the night, the Eagles' Cody Endres won by major decision (14-5) over Kyle Andreae.

UW-L returns to action January 11 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen Duals in Des Moines, Iowa and at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) Flash Flannigan Open.
