Iowa gets commitments from PA lightweights Lee, Teasdale

A pair of wrestlers that ended the 2015-16 high school season ranked No. 1 in the nation at their weight class verbally committed to the University of Iowa on Wednesday afternoon. Spencer Lee (Franklin Regional, Pa.) is ranked No. 1 overall in the Class of 2017, and was the top-ranked 120-pound wrestler this past season. Gavin Teasdale (Jefferson Morgan, Pa.) is ranked No. 3 overall in the Class of 2018, and was the top-ranked 113-pound wrestler this past season.

FloWrestling.com first reported the commitments.

Both Lee and Teasdale are undefeated in their high school careers, Lee having won three state titles and Teasdale two. Each is projected as a 125/133 for their collegiate career.

Lee is also a two-time Super 32 Challenge champion, a UWW world freestyle champion each of the previous two years at 50 kilograms (Cadet in 2014, Junior in 2015), and a two-time Walsh Jesuit Ironman champion. Teasdale has twice represented the United States at the UWW Cadet world championships after winning a Cadet freestyle national title, 42 kilograms in 2014 and 50 kilograms in 2015.

At present, Iowa has three other verbal commitments from top 50 prospects in the 2017 class, while Teasdale is the first commit for 2018.

Penn State does not need them and frankly we don't have room for them scholarship wise thats how good we are! Suriano will be better in college he is just tougher wait and see

Suriano tougher than Lee? We'll see about that. It's gonna be a pleasure watchin' Lee beat Suriano for 3 years like he stole from em".

To say Penn State does not need Spencer Lee or Teasdale is a joke! Lee is the best HS wrestler I have seen in along time. These two together are going to be amazing. I wish they would have chosen a different school as I dislike how the Brands act and how some members of the Iowa team act/wrestle. PSU will be fine going forward but I think Cael would disagree with your summation that he does not need these two PA legends!

Iowa is putting together a GREAT 2017 class...yeah PSU was not interested in either Lee or Teasdale...*LOL*

Of course it would be nice to get them but with the bevy of talent and a hand full of scholarships to work with it's just not possible and Suriano has beaten Lee FYI. It takes 10 weights to win these days and P.State is unstoppable

Why do we have to disparage these kids, to make an unproven point? Lee is supposed to be the next Snyder. But we all know that things can go not as planned? Witness Marstellar.

Iowa turns exciting wrestlers into boring stallers.

I am a lifelong Iowa wrestling fan. Most of the Iowa fans that I have spoken to have not been pleased with what Brands is producing on the mat. Boring, low scoring matches. Based on what we have seen so far in the Brands era, I am ashamed to say that I only think Iowa can keep up with PSU if they recruit a top five class every single year. I didn't say beat, I mean stay competitive

....I think a lot of Iowa fans made the assumption that Brands would continue the gable way. I don't think it is unfair for Iowa fans to be critical of him....at the same time, as much as I hate saying it, what an amazing job Sanderson has done @ PSU. He recruits like Saban at Bama
